My skin care routine at 40

Hello my friends! Hope you all are doing well! We are doing great besides a crazy stomach bug Breaker caught. He’s so tough my little guy! He always has such good spirits even when he’s puking. He’s better today and now we can get ready for his birthday celebrations. He turns 6 on Monday! I seriously can’t believe it. I’ll share some more next week.

Today I wanted to share some of my favorite skin care products. I’ve done a post before but I have changed it up being that I turned 40 this year. And I noticed I needed to add a bit more to my skin care needs. I’ll link my old post here! I still love the ones I posted but I feel it’s good to change it up during the year as seasons change or add something more when needed.

So first is my daily face wash. I was using cerave which I still love but I did feel like I needed something a little more aggressive but still not harming to my skin. I do have sensitive skin. So I started using Dermalogica daily microfoliant. I used one similar before but it was the age defying one and it was too aggressive I think this one is just perfect. I’ll use this at night mostly since through out the day we get more dirt on our face. Normally in the morning I just get a wash cloth rinse with warm water and lightly wipe my face, I try not to wash with a wash in the morning since I wash at night. I do use a toner after the warm cloth wipe just to remove any dirt from sleeping. I’ve noticed this method has worked and my face has not been dry even in this dry weather.

Ok so now for the secret gems! First always use an SPF during the day I still use the Cerave daily face moisturizer with SPF. I do want to try the Super goop one soon! So after my morning face wipe and toner, I add the newest addition to my skin care routine, Summer Friday’s CC me serum! It’s fantastic I’ve used it now for a month and I love it. I’ve noticed my pores are less noticeable and my hyper pigmentation on my upper lip has gotten much lighter. That is the one that bothered me the most. I do have age spots and I still don’t see much difference but I’m ok with that because I don’t see them any darker either. So once I add my CC serum I will add on my SPF moisturizer! That’s my morning routine. Night routine after using My face wash I’ll add a tiny bit of the CC serum above my upper lip and my age spots, difference from morning is I put it all over. After that I will use Summer Friday’s jet lag mask as a night cream this has been my holy grail for over a year now. My under eye area is so good because of this! I did recently start using this tea spray from teami blends I do love it but realized it has oils so I am very carful when using because of my eye lash extensions. But it smells amazing! Last but definitely not least is Summer Friday’s overtime mask this has been a game changer! My skin feels so great after using this. I use it about 3 times a week it’s just the best exfoliating mask ever. I feel like this routine has been the best for my skin so far! And now for my secret. I had been feeling extremely self conscious with my skin. I mean I have good skin thankfully my Mom taught me young to take care of it and not to wear so much makeup! Because I’ll always need it. Glad she told me that.

But I’m 40 and I mean naturally we get older and things change. Well I was not wanting to wear foundation because I thought it made my forehead wrinkles more visible especially that annoying 11! Well I decided to start my journey with Botox! I say journey because I will continue to get it every 6 months as advised by my Dr! I received 25 units on my 11 area. And I couldn’t be more happier! It’s given me more confidence especially the fact that I take photos for my blog! I don’t have to edit much. I’m so happy with my decision. And highly recommend anyone thinking about it to please do your research before getting it done! Side note doesn’t hurt at all and the myths of Botox headache is not true! It actually took my headaches away!

So why is this something I’m thankful for? Because my mom taught me to take care of my skin that I’ll have forever. And thankful for my Botox,Lol!

My everyday must haves

Hello Friends! Hope you all are doing well. I’m doing great. I had the best 40th birthday celebration. The plus was having my mom home with me too. It’s crazy at 40 my mom became a grandma and for my 40th, my niece was old enough to celebrate my b-day with me at a bar, LOL!

So Now that I’m 40 it’s time to really keep those healthier habits. I’ve been doing pretty good for over a year now. I wanted to share my must haves. So pretty much the top few items I use everyday. And most I’ve been using for a year. So I’m confident enough to tell you they work.

First is health, Routine physical is so important. I get mine every year, along with blood work, pap and breast check. So important to keep up with your yearly physicals. Exercise, I can’t tell you how much having an exercise routine has helped me, Not only physically but mentally as well. I love the sweat app, it’s literally life changing if you can only work out at home like myself. I also love tone it up protein powder. I’ve been using this one for way over a year now. And so conveniently sold at target. Setting up a routine is great. Sticking to it is all you. Just know once you do it feels great.

Beauty would be second. My mom taught my sisters and I very young on taking care of our skin. Having a skin regimen is great. I know there are so many products out there to choose from. I honestly have used so many high-end and low-end. Some I didn’t like and some that were just ok. But for the last year these have been a big staple in my skin routine. I make sure to use toner everyday. Especially the days I work out and sweat more. Even though you wash your face and exfoliate, the Toner just removes whatever was left. I love the thayers which hazel toner and exfoliating cottons from target. Summer Fridays jet lag mask has been my bestie for the last year. I keep it in the fridge and oh my it has helped my skin not get dry patches from the weather. I also love the way it feels under my eye area. Rose water spray I’ve talked about before. I love this stuff. With summer coming and spending more time near water and in the sun, I always carry this spray with me to keep my skin hydrated. Ice roller, OMG! Love love this thing. Seriously helps with puffiness and one of the reasons I love it, is when I get migraines or I’m just feeling tired. Rolling this on my face is just so soothing. These have been my holy grails this past year.

Hair I mean it’s important. Of course finding the right wash for you is important. everyones hair is different. But I’d say a good hydrating shampoo is key. And my all time holy grail for my hair is It’s a 10! I’ve been using this stuff for over 8 years It’s the best! Another thing don’t wash your hair everyday and get trims often. Don’t let a year go by without a trim.

Goodbye 30’s, Hello 40

Hello Ladies! How are you all doing?! I’m so ready to celebrate my Birthday. As you can tell by the title, I’m turning 40. My actual birthday is April 6. I wanted to share a little bit of what I learned in my 30’s and what I hope to achieve in my 40’s.

My 30’s taught me a lot. I actually learned a lot about myself. I really wasn’t happy with myself in my 20’s I think I tried to grow up too fast. So my 20’s were very tiring. Maybe one day I’ll write more about that. but today is about my 30’s. I was a single mom in the beginning of my 30’s. I had a 5-year-old aka David, my oldest. I was a working single mom and getting it all done. I balanced pretty well and I never felt over tired or never felt like I wanted anything different. I was content. Of course as time went on I wanted a companion. But I wasn’t pushing it or looking. In my early 30’s was when ,I met my soul mate. I honestly feel like I wouldn’t have met that special someone until I was happy with myself. I felt comfortable in my skin and I liked who I was as a person. I didn’t yet have the confidence I have today but I was on the right path. I was a mother first and always first. So I learned how to balance being a mom and making that time for my love life. We all know relationships aren’t easy but when you are happy with yourself and know what you want. It can make it easier.

One of my biggest lessons in my 30’s was to be true to myself. It’s what I live by today. Don’t try to keep up with the anyone. God has made a path for all of us. We just need to learn how to stay in our own lane and not try to cut someone off because you think they have it better than you. Don’t ever feel like your dreams are just dreams, make them happen and don’t ever let anyone tell you, You can’t! I try not to use that word anymore. Believe me I used it a lot before. I may be turning 40 but my dreams are still young and I plan to accomplish them. I will and I can.

Turning 40, I’m not afraid of getting older. Because I’m getting wiser, It’s not just a saying it’s the truth. I don’t know it all, But I can say I know all about myself. I’m a good mom, lover, daughter, sister and aunt. I’m not even scared of a little Botox, LOL! I feel great in my skin and I’m proud to say I’m 40! I feel like it’s a new chapter for me. It’s my time to shine! So cheers to 40! and to all my fellow SHHS sisters that turn 40 this year, Girls we are hot!

Since I love fashion I thought it would be fun to share what was popular in 1979 the year I was born! Pleated skirts, I thought that was cool being my b-day party outfit consist of pleads. I’ll share that next week. Belted jackets which I see that a lot right now. They say fashion just keeps coming back! A bow blouse, I mean one of my favorite blouses is a bow blouse! Denim overalls, do those ever go out of style?! A tube top, Everyone loves a good tube top! 1979 fashion was cool! Thanks Mom for giving Birth to me! So I can say I was born in the 70’s! I mean it sounds so much cooler! Till next post!

My workouts and motivation

Hello friends! Happy Valentines Day! Hope you all are well! We are doing good over here. So who still goes all out for Valentines day?! We don’t I will cook us a nice dinner and will just relax at home. But we do need to squeeze in a date night soon.

So today I wanted to talk about my workouts and what has been motivating me. I made a promise since last year that I would continue to be healthy and take care of my body. My biggest motivation is my kids. I want to be healthy for them, But also show them to be healthy for themselves. Since adding workouts and just being more aware of what I eat has really helped with my daily activities and my health. I turn 40 this year and I want to feel strong. Turning 40 isn’t scary to me, I’m proud. I also want to feel great and that motivates me to keep going.

My favorite workout is dancing. I love it so much and it actually works out your entire body with having fun. I would love to find a dance class to take a couple of times a month. But in the meantime I workout to the fitness Marshall on youtube. His videos are short and fun. Not to mention great songs. I workout to these videos 3 times a week. I put 25 minutes on my app and I get my cardio in. I do about 5 videos in a  row. I love it and you feel the burn.

My newest workout is the Sweat app. This has been so good. I started off by taking on a 12 week challenge and I’m on week 5. I remember reading by 4 weeks you will see a difference, by week 8 friends and family will and by 12 everyone will notice. Well I can honestly say I see a difference. I’m so happy with my results. I feel stronger. If you aren’t familiar with what it is. It’s also known as BBG, Bikini body guide. It’s pretty popular out there on social media and let me tell you it works. What I love about this app is that you have different categories I’m on beginners. You can work out anywhere using this app. I’m giving a short look into this app over on my instagram if you want to take a look. The exercises are not easy at first even the beginners, But 4 weeks in almost 5 I’ve seen so much improvement. I can actually get the burpees done, LOL! Those were killers to me. I still haven’t lost lbs on the scale but inches for sure. My clothes are fitting me better or even bigger. So that’s a good sign. I gave up last year on the scale. I go by more on how I feel. My legs have never been this strong in my life. I was called chicken legs in grade school, LOL! But now I have muscle! I really recommend this App if you are looking for a good workout with convenience.
